Title:                         Research Associate, Center for Technology and the Human Person

Reports to:             Director, Center for Technology and the Human Person

Job Summary:          The Research Associate contributes to Heritage’s technology policy in both established areas involving child protection and emerging areas such as AI. In particular, under the Director’s supervision, this position helps build out the Center’s work in AI and hard tech including microprocessors and robotics. This work will include analysis laws, policies, and rulemaking by federal and state agencies. The Research Associate supports other staff to enhance research and refine proposals into affirmative public policy positions that advance Heritage’s Cornerstone priorities.

Job Duties:

  • Develop a command of assigned issue areas while advancing new areas of focus and expanding the Center’s mission.
  • Conduct scholarly research and policy analysis.
  • Provide research support for senior research staff; participate in public policy formation internally and externally.
  • Assist with priority projects, at both the federal and state level.
  • Organize large quantities of data or information into effective policy or advocacy papers.
  • Participate in Heritage’s internal AI Use Policy committee.
  • Participate in relevant public functions and conferences.
  • Provide administrative support for Tech Policy Center events and meetings.

 

Qualifications:

Education:                  B.A. in related field required

Experience:                 2+ years of research and writing experience in tech and tech policy research

Communication:         Excellent, fast, and convincing writing for both research and commentary

Technology:                Coding experience; Microsoft Suite, strong facility in relevant social media platforms, with LLMs such as Gemini, ChatGPT, Grok, and Claude

The salary range for this role is $60,000 - $69,000 annually. This range is a good-faith estimate, and the final salary offered to a selected candidate depends on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, and other qualifications; internal and external market pay for comparable jobs; and level of hire based on aforementioned qualifications.
